Join artist and garden designer, Anna, for a morning of garden sketching at Water Lane this autumn.

Take a moment to enjoy and observe nature. Using flowers from our September cutting garden, we will take time to look at how plants are put together and translate the shapes and character into sketches. Through simple, accessible techniques and exercises, we will explore ways for you to improve your sketching skills. 

There is no need to have prior drawing skills, the course is more about enjoying the process and the calm of observing and engaging with nature than producing a masterpiece.  
  • You will take away lots of tips and techniques and a sketchbook so you can continue the enjoyment of sketching plants.
  • There will be an assortment of pencils and fine liners to use on the course and you are welcome to bring your own favourite, light sketching tools (water based only please). 
  • There will be refreshments served in the middle of the session so that we can get to know each other.

More about Anna:

Anna is a planting designer, garden advisor, sketching teacher and former head gardener at Long Barn, the precursor to Sissinghurst. She trained in fine art in her native Denmark and uses sketching to illustrate planting plans, assess planting and to engage with and enjoy nature. Her approach to teaching is approachable with an emphasis on creating an enjoyable atmosphere for attendants and giving them lots of information to build on.

We are unable to offer refunds for our workshops. However, should you need to cancel a booking we will endeavour to sell your place via our database and social media. If successful, we will refund or offer an alternative course subject to availability. If you would like to transfer your ticket to a friend or family member, please advise us in writing.
