Silk Painting Workshop - 17th May - 10am - 4pm
This class will introduce you to the colourful and intricate skill of silk painting with Hilary Simon.
About this event
This one-day workshop provides a structured introduction to the techniques of painting on silk and a masterclass in how to apply colour and create beautiful designs. Hilary will explain the materials you'll be using and the different ways to create a variety of effects on silk using salt, layering, alcohol and methods of applying the dyes and gutta gum. The dyes are French Dupont which mix beautifully and run like vibrant watercolours.
Following the demonstration, you'll then create your own designs on paper as well as testing techniques on a sample silk square. During the afternoon you will create your own 15” silk square, with Hilary on hand to guide you.
You'll take inspiration from the surrounding glasshouses and gardens here at Water Lane.
At the end of the workshop you will take home your new skill plus the test silk square and your completed work of art, perfect for framing, hanging or ready to fix and hem.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and people of all abilities with great results.
